Environment Art - Mentorship #1

This is my first blog post on my environment art mentorship under the amazing and generous Ayi Sanchez. Firstly, I just want to express my gratitude for the opporitunity to work under Ayi's critique and advice, the experience has been beyond amazing.

I've been working on this project for a little while now so the things I'm posting today were done a few weeks ago. So I'll be playing catch-up with this blog until we get up to speed. With that being said lets hop right into it with some pre-production and blockout creation!

The original concept I got from Piotr Krezelewski

I quite like it.

As per usual, I started collecting some reference. Actually a lot of reference. This is the main reference sheet, has been expanded upon since creation lol. That being said I've also made some other reference sheets for things like material studies, props, structural integration and stuff like that.

My process for blocking a level starts out with making some basic geo in Maya, I'll do some rough layout in Maya as well before I bring it in. From there I'll pretty much import the laid out environment as well as the individual objects to start playing around with how it will look in engine.

Well people, I wanted to keep this one a little shorter and just introduce the project. Next post I'll dive into the process I went through to create the wooden planks...FYI ITS GONNA BE ROUGH.
